As part of the International Polar Year, thirteen research ships from around the world conduct an intensive scientific survey of the southern ocean, which is under growing threat from commercial interests and global climate warming. In February 2008, the most ambitious expedition ever by New Zealand’s Research Vessel Tangaroa sets sail for Antarctica. Forty-five scientists and crew voyage into this hostile and unknown environment.
