HOW "ASK THE EXPERT" CAME TO BE

“Ask the Expert” was originated by National Geographic with the intention of becoming our first ever Web Series. The original concept came from our website and from listening to the audience. Readers would write in with all different kinds of questions and we decided to produce a web series that playfully addressed and answered those questions. We ultimately decided to model the series on craft-like paperwork and stop-motion animation.

A global project, “Ask the Expert” was conceived in London, managed and written in Los Angeles, fact checked in Washington DC and physically produced in Buenos Aires.

We provided the writers with reader submitted questions from the website and facts confirmed by our internal research department. Using their comedy background the writers brought an incredibly unique voice to the series.

Speaking of voices, we always envisioned a down-to-earth, relatable character to play our expert. Like talking to a young Tom Hanks over a cup of coffee. We hired a seasoned voice-over talent who fit the bill and recorded him in our in-house studio in Los Angeles.

With all the words (written and spoken) in place, we sent our materials to Buenos Aires for physical production.

This project started from the viewers and now it’s up to you again to let us know if you want more!
