LA SAGRADA FAMILIA WEB FACTS

  1. The Nativity Façade is dedicated to the birth of Christ. The Passion Façade depicts the suffering of Jesus during his crucifixion, and the Glory Façade shows the role of humanity.
  2. Built as an expiatory temple, the Sagrada Familia is 100% privately funded.  
  3. During the Spanish Civil War in 1936, revolutionaries set fire to the crypt and the workshop, destroying Gaudi’s plans, drawings and scale models.
  4. The Sagrada Familia is expected to be completed in 2026, in honor of the 100th anniversary of Gaudi’s death. To date, only 65% of the church has been completed.
  5. An estimated 60,000 cubic feet of concrete, 770 tons of steel, and 140,000 cubic feet of stone are used in the construction of the Sagrada Familia each year.
