Richard is an award-winning British television presenter who sprang to prominence with Top Gear in 2002 – a flagship show for BBC 2, now currently in its tenth series.
From 1998 to 1999 he presented Motorweek – a weekly magazine for Granada Sky Broadcasting (GSB) as well as Kits n' Cruisin', a weekly look at unusual cars and motoring people, and he's examined motoring consumer issues for Money Matters on the Money Channel. In Better Cars (GSB), he took cars and their owners to experts and designers in order to restore, adapt, and 'make-over', turning the family jalopy into a dream machine.
Through 2000 - 2001 he was a comfortable and witty presence on the sofa of Livetime for Granada Breeze - presenting live, hour-long shows of lifestyle issues. From November 2000, he had a regular two hours live each Saturday with Home and Garden (Livetime) while also 'tasting' Canada for Carlton Food Network.
His lively warmth enhanced his BBCTV opt out for Children in Need, a characteristic he also transfers to radio. Richard is an expert in radio, having had eight years experience presenting and producing for various stations including BBC North, BBC Radio York and BBC Radio Leeds as well as his weekly motoring hour on LBC.
Moving out of the garage, Richard tackled scientific matters for Sky One with BRAINIAC, which he presented for five series. Turning his talent to something different again, he has presented the live show This Morning and, to demonstrate one of his other interests, hosted Crufts for two consecutive years. In 2006 he teamed up with Mel Giedroyc to host RICHARD HAMMOND’S 5 O’CLOCK SHOW for ITV, a live magazine-style show discussing popular and unusual topics with regular competitions.
Continuing to enjoy variety in his career, Richard has made several documentaries: Richard Hammond and The Holy Grail – following Richard’s own journey across several continents and his conclusions; The Gunpowder Plot: Exploding the Legend, where history was revisited and a life-size replica of the Houses of Parliament built and then blown up to see what would have happened had Guy Fawkes succeeded, and Timewatch – Bloody Omaha, revealing the truth about the D-Day landing at Omaha beach and the incredible bravery, and moving stories of those involved.
