DESCRIPTION

This is a two-hour special that takes viewers into an operating room during an awake Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery, a procedure in which electrodes are inserted through tiny holes in the back of the head while the patient is fully awake and able to speak with the surgeons, with the goal of stopping uncontrollable tremors. The special will capture the drama of a modern-day medical marvel, and also celebrate the body’s most amazing, most complex machine: the brain. The show will be a blend of live coverage of the procedure and taped packages that chronicle the history of everything we’ve learned about the brain and everything we still want to know.
