2008 was the International Year of Planet Earth, marked by astounding scientific breakthroughs in the understanding of our world – as well as by devastating reminders of how much the Earth has left to teach us. These scientific breakthroughs will form the core of this year’s Earth Report. Young high-energy experts from around the globe will be our guide, while stunning archival footage will provide our window into the front lines of science. From advances in predicting earthquakes and typhoons, to dazzling insights into the Northern lights and supervolcanoes, to the discovery of one hundred thousand endangered gorillas, this was a year to remember.
