Investigators unravel the mystery of five dead elephants.
(01:12)Experts attempt to determine what caused the unexplained death of a family of elephants.
On 4 May 2007, in the Indian state of West Bengal, a family of five elephants was found dead in mysterious circumstances. With no obvious disease present, the authorities investigating the case attribute the deaths to a lightning strike. Research reveals that the relationship between humans and elephants has changed in recent years and that both parties are at war with each other over the limited resources. Were these animals killed on purpose? Was this a punishment sent by the Gods? The scientists have no explanation.
These mysterious deaths were the first of their kind and left local people and wildlife officials baffled and frightened. Elephant Graveyard follows a team of experts who re-examine this freaky incident. Will new evidence show what caused the demise of these gigantic animals?
