The Fishery Protection Squadron is the oldest front line squadron in the Royal Navy. The primary task of the Royal Navy, in its role of patrolling UK's Extended Fisheries Zone, is its involvement in the highly emotive and politically sensitive UK and European fishing industry. The RAF’s Sea King, as featured in Sea Patrol UK, provides 24-hour cover for sea rescues around the UK and the Falkland Island throughout each year. Each squadron maintains a 15-minute readiness state during daylight hours and a 45-minute readiness state during the hours of darkness.
