600 miles off the coast of Ecuador lies a chain of islands untouched by humans for millions of years. Formed by violent volcanic activity deep beneath the Earth's surface, these jagged isles have risen high, giving birth and time to isolated life and evolution that has changed our understanding of the world....and of our own existence. These are the Galápagos Islands, arguably the most important island chain on Earth.
