In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, National Geographic Abu Dhabi is presenting "Hope for Haiti," a global telethon that will air commercial‐free on the National Geographic channels worldwide as well as on a number of major television networks worldwide, on Saturday January 23, 2010 at 9:00 pm UAE and 8:00 pm KSA time.
The two‐hour telethon will be broadcast from New York City, Los Angeles and London and will feature musical performances and celebrity appearances, as well as live news reports from CNN. Leading the charge for “Hope for Haiti” will be George Clooney in Los Angeles, Wyclef Jean in New York City and CNN’s Anderson Cooper from Haiti. Each will be supporting the cause with testimonials and by answering telephones during the event.
The global telethon will feature live performances by Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, and Sting in New York City; Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift and a group performance by Keith Urban, Kid Rock, and Sheryl Crow in Los Angeles; and Coldplay, Jay-Z, Bono, and The Edge, in a newly-added London location.
All proceeds will be split evenly among five relief organisations currently operating in Haiti: Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF and Yele Haiti Foundation (www.yele.org). Facebook and MySpace have also signed on as official social media partners to help drive donations and tune‐ins to the telethon.
